2017 Touring Speakers

Michael Salmon has announced not one but two Queensland tours in 2017 - the SE Queensland Monster Tour and the FNQ Monster Tour.

As momentum is growing for 2017, I am pleased to report that we have a number of Speakers visiting a number of places around Australia.

To see who is visiting where and when please check out the
Touring Speakers page on our website.  If a Speaker is of interest - please enquire online or contact Speakers Ink directly to secure your booking.

Stop Press

Tristan Bancks has just advised that he has opened up an additional 4 days in 2017 for bookings to coincide with the launch of his new book - My Life and Other Weaponised Muffins.  Tristan now has availability in the week beginning Monday, 27 February - not too far away! If you would like to pursue a booking with Tristan during this time, please contact Speakers Ink to secure your booking.

International Read to Me Day

Emma Mactaggart, one of our very own Speakers Inkers, is the creator of International Read to Me Day.  Emma's goal is to use 'International Read to Me Day" as a way of connecting young people around the world to each other and to their communities.  Emma passionately says, "We all know it takes a village to raise a child, but it often takes a child to inspire a village into action.  It is time to listen to that one child".

International Read to Me Day will be held this year on Sunday, 19th March - we hope you can get behind this great initiative.  For all the details, please follow the
link.

Congratulations to...

What's On

The Bilby awards are on again this year - registration opened on 1 February.

The State Library of Queensland has many programs running throughout the year. Keep checking here for
ore information as  programs are finalised.

Following the success of the reCollections exhibition in 2016, another exhibition of original illustrations from Australian children's books is being organised for 2017. Visually speaking will comprise artworks on loan from local children's illustrators from their published books. The exhibition will first show at the Garden City Library during April and May.

The Somerset Celebration of Literature is once again being held in March 2017 and in preparation the
National Poetry Prize and the National Novella Writing Competition is now open for applications.  What a great way to encourage young aspiring poets.

Book Links is this year expanding its 'Romancing the Stars' event to incorporate THREE evenings in February, 'speed-dating' with authors, poets and illustrators. This is a perfect opportunity for librarians and teachers to meet speakers and find out what they do, and it's a lot of fun!
