Venero Armanno

VENERO (Veny) ARMANNO was born in Brisbane to Sicilian migrant parents and is the author of a book of short stories, Jumping at the Moon, and nine critically acclaimed novels.  These are The Lonely Hunter, Romeo of the Underworld, My Beautiful Friend, Strange Rain, Firehead, The Volcano, Candle Life, The Dirty Beat and Black Mountain.

Firehead was shortlisted in the 1999 Queensland Premiers Literary Award for Best Fiction; The Volcano won that award in 2002. The Volcano was also shortlisted for the Courier Mail Best Book of the Year.

His books have been published in USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Israel and South Korea. Veny has also written books for younger readers and is a trained screenwriter. At present he teaches creative writing at University of Queensland.

His latest book is Burning Down.
