James Moloney - Moving into Retirement......

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of James Moloney from school based speaking engagements.

James has written a staggering 50 novels for young adults and children. His award winning writing has entertained and educated thousands of school children and teen students not only in Australia, but around the world. One of his most recent awards was the Dame Anabelle Rankin Award for services to children's literature, awarded by the Children's Book Council of Australia - Qld Branch. He has been a very popular and often-booked speaker, never failing to delight his audiences.

Speakers Ink would like to thank James for his tireless years of service and we wish him all the best for a happy and healthy retirement.

The Spotlight is on...David Lovegrove

David Lovegrove is a professional artist, writer and teacher who runs his own Art and Design studio. David has become very well known throughout Eastern Australia, particularly Qld and Northern NSW, due to his extremely popular Manga story and art workshops. He has been invited to run Manga workshops for the last 3 years by the Consulate General of Japan during the yearly Japan Week celebrations. In his professional life he has created Manga art for Emirates Airlines, Dubai and concept art for the Spielberg WW2 TV series "The Pacific", the Hollywood thriller "The Ruins" and the James Cameron/ Alister Greirson production "Sanctum".

David's most recent achievement has been to complete the illustrations on the fifth edition of the Obento Japanese language textbooks. The Obento Deluxe Japanese language textbook that Dave illustrated is now available from Cengage Learning Australia Ltd.  It is the leading Australian-market Japanese language course for Years 7-10.

David has a wonderful accommodating manner.
The students loved him! His material was informative and age appropriate. A very interesting individual!

All Saints Anglican School - June, 2017

David was warm and engaging and managed a full house very well with a diverse range of ages from 12-20 and with varying skills with humour and grace. He more than met expectations.

The Last Word

Allison Rushby is offering a one-hour talk in Term 4, 2018 and Term 1, 2019. Alison first delivered this talk at the Brisbane Writer's Festival in September 2018.

In her hour-long talk "Stay Weird, Stay Different and Write What you Love", Allison delves deeply into the tricky world of writing inspiration. She explains how listeners can tune in to their everyday environment in order to "spark" ideas that will get them writing and how the best writing always stems from a true sense of self.

Allison is the internationally-published author of over twenty novels. Her latest Middle Grade novels are The Mulberry Tree and the Davitt award-winning The Turnkey. A sequel to The Turnkey, titled The Seven Keys, will be published in 2019. Allison enjoys speaking to children in Years 3-7.

“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”
