We’ve well and truly dived into Word Play fun at UPLIT headquarters, with tickets being snapped up by schools all across Queensland. Five sessions are now sold out, with 10 or less tickets available for some sessions with Anna Fienberg (4005, 5006), James Foley (5007, 5009), Jackie French (4007), Leigh Hobbs (2008), Garth Nix (1107), Wendy Orr (2004) and Mark Smith (1105, 4009).
While sessions with Jackie Smith, Leigh Hobbs and James Foley are filling up fast, teachers can still hear from these popular Festival artists by attending their Professional Development sessions throughout the week.
Good news for those passionate people with a hankering to get involved in this year’s Brisbane Writers Festival - volunteer applications are now open for submissions.

NAIDOC WEEK WRITING WORKHOP
Indigenous writers of all ages and experiences are invited to bring a story, song or poem to this free writing workshop with black&write!'s Grace Lucas-Pennington, a young Aboriginal woman of Bundjalung/European descent. Even if you've never written before, join Grace tonight and come and share your stories.

QLD POETRY AWARDS
Queensland Poetry Festival's 2017 Poetry Awards are now open until July 10. This year there are three Arts Queensland Poetry Awards - including the Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize for an Unpublished Manuscript (QLD only), the Val Vallis Award for an Unpublished Poem, and the XYZ Prize for Innovation in Spoken Word - as well the Philip Bacon Ekphrasis Award and the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Indigenous Poetry Prize. QPF2017 are also holding a new competition, Distant Voices – Poetry Bridge whereby a writer will see their words projected onto the William Jolly Bridge. More info:queenslandpoetryfestival.com
