Congratulations ...

Wendy Orr, whose book Swallow's Dance is receiving rave reviews. Wendy says, "I’m very happy to tell you that Swallow’s Dance is now out in Australia, and will be released on October 1 in Canada and the USA. This book takes place 200 years before Dragonfly Song, so is a companion to it rather than a sequel. I received a grant in 2016 from the Australian Council of the Arts which allowed me to research this story on site in Santorini and Crete. I’m incredibly grateful for that, as well as to the archaeologist Sabine Beckmann, who instructed me in Crete."

AND

Goldie Alexander whose trilogy, Shakespeare Now! will be launched on 22 September at Readings Kids Bookshop, 315 Lygon Street, Melbourne at 2.00pm.

Queensland Literary Awards

The shortlist for the 2018 Queensland Literary Awards were announced during the week and we were delighted to learn that our own Peter Carnavas's Book The Elephant was included in the Griffith University Children's Book Award category. This book was also shortlisted for CBCA's Book of the Year Award.

The judges commented, "Peter Carnavas has illustrated his debut novel, The Elephant, with simple, evocative line drawings. How Olive and her grandad cope with her mother’s death and father’s overwhelming grief is shown through consummate, heartfelt storytelling. The sensory, lyrical writing is exquisite and the symbols are profound yet ultimately light-filled and hopeful."

Congratulations Peter.
