Barry Jonsberg’s YA novels, The Whole Business with Kiffo and the Pitbull and It’s Not All About YOU, Calma! were shortlisted for the CBCA awards. 

It’s Not All About YOU, Calma! also won the Adelaide Festival Award for Children’s Literature and

Dreamrider was shortlisted in the NSW Premier’s Awards.

Being Here won the QLD Premier’s YA Book Award and was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Award.

My Life as an Alphabet won the Gold Inky, the Children’s Peace Literature Award, Winner German Readers' Choice Award Leserpreis 2014 in Gold in the category "Kinderbucher" (Children's Books) 2014 DE, the Territory Read, Children’s Literature/YA Award and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award and was shortlisted in the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, the CBCA awards, the WA Premier’s Book Awards and the Adelaide Festival Awards. It has now been made into a major motion picture, H Is For Happiness, starring Richard Roxburgh and Miriam Margolyes, premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August 2019.

His Pandora Jones: Admission (the first part of the Pandora Jones trilogy) was Joint winner/co-winner, International Youth Library: The White Ravens Award 2015 DE

His latest book, A Song Only I Can Hear recently won the Indie Award, YA category, 2019.


Barry lives in Darwin with his wife, Nita, and a slightly crazed blue heeler called Zed. His books have been published in the USA, the UK, France, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Turkey, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Italy, China, India and Korea.

  • We had a lovely Literature Event yesterday. Barry Jonsberg was fantastic, all the sessions went smoothly and we have had great feedback from the staff and students. Barry’s sessions had the students laughing and applauding throughout.
