Cameron is a highly booked speaker in schools throughout Australia, bringing a wealth of experience, passion and creativity to the classroom.
Cameron is well known for his ability to mentor students to find the inspiration to ‘get started’, develop amazing descriptive writing skills, and move students to a higher and more sophisticated level of creativity in their writing and illustration.
His genuine interest in the students’ learning is clearly evident in his workshops. Along with a good dash of humour, excitement, and enthusiasm, Cameron’s workshops engage even the most reluctant writers.
Cameron’s extensive qualifications include a Doctorate of Visual Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Graduate Diploma in Education.
After living in many places around Australia (and overseas), Cameron now happily resides next to state forest in Queensland with his wife, two daughters and the occasional visiting wallabies.
A full time author since 2004, Cameron has a passion for creating exciting children’s books and inventing wonderful and appealing characters. The six books in his award winning Stroogle series use enchanting rhyme and vivid watercolour illustrations to bring the stories to life. Cameron’s three how-to-draw publications give students a hands-on opportunity to create their own characters for stories. The first five adventures in Cameron’s internationally award-winning Pie Rats series of illustrated novels are enthralling reads for children age 8+.
Woven throughout the witty text and detailed illustrations, are messages of hope, perseverance, loyalty, friendship and the importance of family. As a mentor, these are messages that Cameron brings into his workshops with students.
I volunteered to read the "Pie Rats" to see in what context we could use them before Cameron's visit. I am currently on the 3rd book. I am known here as a "bookworm", reading anything and everything, and I can honestly say I have enjoyed Cameron's books as much as I enjoy a Matthew Reilly, a Nicholas Sparks or a John Grisham. I am very impressed with Cameron's writing, (especially enjoying the humorous parts) and I love the illustrations. I have encouraged all teachers and children from Year 3 up to Year 7 to read the books.

Cameron and his wife Jenny were very thorough in the lead up to his visit, with detailed emails about how to make the most of his visit. They were very easy to deal with and all emails were responded to promptly. Cameron easily managed the student groups (Prep - Year 2) and his presentations engaged the students, especially the illustration aspect of his presentation.

Cameron more than met our expectations. Would definitely book him again. The presentation was fantastic and he provided updates about his presentation for our newsletter, which was incredibly helpful.

Our students enjoyed listening to Dr. Cameron Stelzer. They were so enthusiastic that students showed their younger brothers and sisters how to draw some of the characters at home. Cameron obviously made a great impact. An overwhelming number of students came in with book orders and I have a reserve list waiting for the library copies.
I would definitely recommend Cameron to other schools.
