Matt Stanton
Matt Stanton is an award-winning children's author and illustrator who has sold more than one million books in Australia. He has published more than 45 books including the Funny Kid series, This is a Ball picture book series (with his wife, Beck Stanton), The Odds graphic novel series and the Fluff series (a CBCA Honour book 2025). His books are published all around the world.
Matt is an experienced speaker (with many popular appearances at festivals including the Sydney Writers Festival, Storyfest, Byron Bay Writers Festival and many more). He loves inspiring students to embrace reading, tell their own stories and enjoy their creative spark.
Matt lives on the south coast of NSW with his wife, bestselling author Beck Stanton, their four children and one giant dog.

In this funny and highly engaging session, bestselling and award-winning childrens author / illustrator Matt Stanton takes students (Stages 1-3) behind the scenes of his brand new Duck series.
Where do ideas come from? How do we use structure to build them into stories? How does research shape even the silliest of ideas? How do we create characters that inspire and drive our stories forward? How can drawing help us to write when we're stuck? How do ideas in our imaginations turn into books we can read in the library?
