I was never very good at school - I just didn’t have the focus needed in a classroom environment, thanks to my undiagnosed ADHD. I do, however, have a brilliant imagination and would have received top marks for daydreaming (if it were a thing). I’ve always been a creator and a writer - I wrote diaries as a kid that turned into extensive travel journals as an adult (covered in my own art) as I worked around the globe for thirteen years.

Throughout those years I worked with a lot of children in various camp counselling and nannying roles and I just love the way kids view the world… not to mention that I love to play, being a kid at heart myself! My most favourite games were always filled with teaching elements, and I found out just how much I love to share knowledge. Funnily enough, both my sister and my Mum also come from teaching backgrounds.

Fast forward some years and the loss of my premature nephew found me writing poems. Those poems sparked the idea to write a children’s book, and after the birth of my own child, I used all the spare minutes I could to write, and write, and write. I was very lucky to have my debut children’s book published in 2025 and since then I have absolutely poured myself into learning the craft of writing. It turns out, I love talking, teaching and inspiring others to give it a go too!

Tailoring my workshop to suit your audience, I will read my published book, talk broadly about children's books and the types of stories, themes and age groups to help you pigeonhole your story. I will go over the foundations of creating a children’s story, talk about developing characters, share my experience in traditional publishing, and even get your pen to paper with mini-workshops throughout, that will help to get that creative idea out of your head and onto the page, giving you the building blocks to get started on a book of your own.

Whether it’s a board book, middle grade, prose or rhyming story that is begging you to begin, by the end of my talk, you should have the confidence to take that first step.
