Dr Sarah Pye is one of our newest additions to the Speakers Ink camp. Sarah has a strong focus on conservation issues especially rainforest animals and protecting our environment, in her ever-expanding range of books. In the next two terms, Year 6 students throughout the country explore the differences between literary text and informational text. More and more schools are enhancing this unit with incursions by Queensland Author Dr Sarah Pye. Sarah is the author of the Wildlife Wong series of books, all which include a nonfiction adventure narrative about a real-life conservationist, cool animal facts and experiments which encourage children to embrace science. In her The Power of Story workshop, Sarah and her puppet sidekick, Luna, use her book Wildlife Wong and the Sun Bear to show students the differences between literary and informational text, and help them understand when each is most relevant. They learn the importance of research, how to use various literary techniques and write effective TEEL paragraphs as they fall in love with the smallest bear in the world! Welcome Sarah! |
