It was our pleasure to host former Heatley SS students and now published author/illustrators Haydn and Damien Crespan in our school library this week. Haydn and Damien read their book "The Adventures of Triz the Babysitter" to each of our year three year 1 classes. They also spoke about their creative processes in terms of writing the story and matching the illustrations to the text. They brought along dinosaur props for the students to interact with - one of which was an original model of Triz [...]
We had a lovely Literature Event yesterday. Barry Jonsberg was fantastic, all the sessions went smoothly and we have had great feedback from the staff and students. Barry’s sessions had the students laughing and applauding throughout. We are now thinking about next year and would love to have Barry back. We had a great time, thanks so much.
Zachary Ashford tailored his presentation to a diverse and large cohort of students. His sessions were interactive, engaging and entertaining. Zach sought feedback constantly and communicated effectively throughout our visit. Would definately recommend!
Students loved Edwina. She is a very engaging speaker who motivates students who are reluctant writers to focus and produce a piece of writing they were happy to share with their peers! Love her Yoga 'brain breaks'. This helped students to stay focused too!!
Charlotte was a fantastic addition to our Book Week celebrations this year! She had the students engaged from the minute they came in and kept them involved the entire time she was presenting. Her books are fabulous classroom resources as well as great fun for the kids to read and they really loved learning about Charlotte’s writing process. Charlotte presented to each session in different ways, developing writing and planning skills, sharing stories and even checking our knowledge of the pas [...]
Tony was very relaxed and easy going. He stepped the kids through the process in a considered way so that no one was left behind and made plenty of time for questions and interaction.
David's sessions with our college on Wednesday went really well and the kids had a great time. We will definitely get him back again next year.
In our student feedback at the end of this semester many of our students made a particular point of mentioning David's seminar as one of the high points of their study in this unit.
