Kate & Jol Temple - Term 1 NAPLAN sessions
Kate and Jol have created a practical talk to give kids real tips that break down story into simple steps and provide the tools for getting the pen moving. This talk looks at narrative structure, creating a hook, rising tensions and sticking the landing, and is designed to make narrative writing feel accessible and fun for all kids in the lead up to Naplan. Louise was a wonderful visitor. The kids were engaged as she talked about her writing, she read one of her books, and they brainstormed a new story that they could then use in class to write their own. She gave great insight into her life as a writer, and as the kids were all familiar with her books, made it much more real to them.
We recently held a Literature & Arts Festival at St. Catherine's Catholic College, The Whitsundays for our Secondary students. All the authors that attended were entertaining, engaging and inspiring. I have had so much positive feedback from students, staff and library colleagues. The students have all been raving about how excellent the festival was, and they were disappointed at the thought of returning to classes for the rest of the week. I have had reluctant readers coming into the library t [...]
Really Fantastic. Talked about stress, anxiety, lots of different health issues that effect impacting young people. Fantastic. Great sense of humour and really engaging with young people.
I have been booking with Speakers Ink Agency for a few years now and I am always so impressed with their communication and support. Tamara and Sandie are so lovely to work with and always help me find the perfect speaker for our school!
Zachary Ashford tailored his presentation to a diverse and large cohort of students. His sessions were interactive, engaging and entertaining. Zach sought feedback constantly and communicated effectively throughout our visit. Would definately recommend!
Brett was very commanding, was able to give strong credentials and good examples of what students are facing. Some student input would have been useful, to keep the two-way loop going.
Candice was lovely to work with. All our students from Prep - Year 6 were engaged, enthused and thoroughly enjoyed their session with Candice.
Darren was a very engaging and gracious author to present to our students during Book Week. He presented to 3 different year groups and was entertaining and willing to answer any of the boys' questions. I would have no hesitation in asking him to the school to present again. He was great fun.
It was our pleasure to host former Heatley SS students and now published author/illustrators Haydn and Damien Crespan in our school library this week. Haydn and Damien read their book "The Adventures of Triz the Babysitter" to each of our year three year 1 classes. They also spoke about their creative processes in terms of writing the story and matching the illustrations to the text. They brought along dinosaur props for the students to interact with - one of which was an original model of Triz [...]
The LORDS community were absolutely delighted to have Charlotte visit our primary school as a guest author. From the moment she arrived, her warmth and knowledge radiated, creating an inviting and engaging atmosphere for both students and staff. Being incredibly approachable, Charlotte instantly put our students at ease, encouraging them to ask questions and share their own thoughts and ideas.
It was a pleasure to have Sheryl Gwyther work with our students at The Cathedral School of St Anne and St James in Townsville. Sheryl delivered workshops and presentations to students from years 3 to 9, before guiding our senior students on a three-day writing camp in the rainforest of Paluma. Sheryl's theoretical knowledge of the writing process was exemplary and her ability to use real-world stimuli to inform her work was inspirational. Sheryl was generous with her one-on-one feedback to stude [...]
Kyle's visit was informative and entertaining. He had a great connection to the students and presented his material in a humorous way. He was punctual and kept to timeframes. I would definitely recommend him to others.
