What people are saying
Andy had a well organised, engaging and interactive presentation. He shared some of his published books, talking about the process of getting a book to a published state. Andy also brought in his version of a 'writer's notebook', which tied in very well with our students' own launch of personal writer's notebooks. Andy was engaging and entertaining for our yr 3-6 students, with his sketching and involving them in doing their own 'two animal' sketch.
We recently held a Literature & Arts Festival at St. Catherine's Catholic College, The Whitsundays for our Secondary students. All the authors that attended were entertaining, engaging and inspiring. I have had so much positive feedback from students, staff and library colleagues. The students have all been raving about how excellent the festival was, and they were disappointed at the thought of returning to classes for the rest of the week. I have had reluctant readers coming into the library t [...]
The speaker was very engaging, very age appropriate for the children, involving them in the session. Dean provided a combination of formats, from singing, having the book on the screen. It was a very enjoyable experience for all the children and staff. The feedback from the teachers was that the children loved it.
Kerry was a great speaker and more than met our expectations. Would definitely recommend her to others.
The sessions both with the students and with the teachers were fantastic. It made all the teachers talk about what and how we are teaching as well as ignited a passion in the teachers to implement changes to their practices.
It’s may sound like a cliché-but it’s a true one- Crystal got even reluctant writers to complete a story. For at least one student this may be the first time that he has done this!
Gabrielle has visited our school for the past three years and run her Chinese watercolour painting session with our year 7s. This complements the text that they study at this year level, Chinese Cinderella. Gabrielle is a true professional with a wonderful instructional manner. She incorporates her Chinese heritage into the workshops beautifully and has the students spellbound. The lovely thing about her sessions is that being able to produce a credible Chinese watercolour at the end of the ses [...]
I think Kat Apel may be our Book Week treasure. The boys love you! Teachers, students and parents have loved hearing you talk about your books and your family, and all the teachers have been impressed with your style and your activities.
An excellent spokesperson who involved the students from the moment he entered the room; providing costumes, music and an interactive slideshow, Matt had the students enthralled from the outset. Never have I seen the students so enthusiastic about starting a story as when Matt asked them to write the entrance of a main character. Two examples were read out and were quite hilarious. This was both educational and entertaining for the students and a great refresher of techniques for me.
Dee read from her book 'Beyond Belief' and shared the incredible story behind its creation. The students were captivated as she spoke about her writing process and the real-life events that inspired the book. After the reading, Dee conducted a fantastic writing workshop with our students, sparking creativity and helping them develop their own storytelling skills. We are so grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a talented and passionate author!
Anisa was so engaging and interesting to listen to. Our students all loved her session and there was a great buzz of enthusiasm for poetry after her session.
Karen’s motivating, inclusive style and high-yield activities really had the students at all abilities working hard, creating stories and experimenting with their imagination.
