Choose Your Own Adventure!
To tie in with the 2025 Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, Dave Lowe has adapted his popular ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ workshop, as a ‘presentation’-style 45- / 60-minute session for large groups of students, from Years 3 to 8. In this fun, highly-interactive session, Dave will share insights into ideas-generation and plotting, and give each student a story template, as well as all the tips and tricks they’ll need to make their own short ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style book that they can take home and try out on friends and family.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Rory H. Mather, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. His insights and expertise into lyrical story writing and rhyme is amazing and the art of story and persistance is truly inspirational. Rory’s approach combines practicality with deep emotional intelligence, enabling students to unlock their potential and achieve their writing goals with a never give up approach. The strategies he offers are not only effective but also easy to implement, making a [...]
Pat was punctual, very well organised and relaxed with the large number of Grade 5 and 6 students he spoke to. The boys loved his entertaining, thought-provoking and amusing stories. He gave the boys great tips and ideas to use in their own writing and engaged all the students for the whole session. Some boys comments - I really enjoyed Pat's visit to Iona. I think that he was very funny and he gave us some helpful tips when writing like giving it a twist and making a serious situation funny whi [...]
Paridhi visited our classroom last term to motivate the children's narrative writing. She demonstrated how she illustrates her story books, read one of her stories and completed some guided drawing with the students. The children were very engaged and interested in Paridhi presentation. They were wowed when she used her technology to show how her draft drawings could be turned into the finished coloured illustrations. The students also loved her story book, Maharaja’s Quest, and enjoyed findin [...]

Irena is a wonderful woman. At all times she was co-operative and willing to contribute her time and talent for the service of others. Her attitude and presentation were always first class. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Irena as an Artist-in Residence
Richard Yaxley worked in two formats across two days with our students - lecture style teaching and small group writing workshops. His input has been very favourably received by students and staff alike. His great input is having direct, positive impact on the students' current English learning unit. I would definitely recommend Richard!
It was really really good and I liked going through the photos. She took a really good photo and we all didn't know it was a fake! I enjoyed that she had a lot of description about how she made her three books come together. She told us about the prehistoric times and the characters. It was fun. Jo gave us tips for our writing and it was nice to know that new and different stuff.
Tim Harris delighted our upper primary students and their teachers with his creative writing workshops. Tim engaged the students with his hacks for narrative writing and the teachers could not have been happier with the content. Tim modified his workshop for each year level. His books are very much in demand in our library.
Simon was great . He manipulated his presentations to the age level and composition of the audience and handled both the 130 students presentation and the 50 students equally well. Would definitely get Simon back next year again if he’s available.
Charlotte presented to my nine-year old students in New Jersey, USA, via videoconference. Her presentation was well-organized, presented in terms the children could understand, and included shark jaws, which the children were in absolute awe over. Charlotte made sure she was prepared by having the students share questions ahead of time based on their curiosity and her website, which peeked the children's interest. From my experience with Charlotte, I would recommend her. I found her to be organi [...]
Sarah enthusiastically ran a workshop for children from 6-14 years old and her interaction with the children, with the aid of Pongo, gained their interest immediately. Sarah was inspirational in promoting the importance of biodiversity, and led teams of children to build quadrats, become scientists and explore the outdoors. An amazing morning!
The feedback from the two groups was very positive. The program was differentiated for the older students. The students clearly enjoyed the opportunities to participate in the presentation and the visuals enabled all students to participate. The flow of activities were a great pace to hold the students attention.
Thank you for the work you did with our girls yesterday. Students and staff alike loved your sessions, and all your books have flown out of the library doors this morning to be used in classrooms. Thank you so much!
