Choose Your Own Adventure!
To tie in with the 2025 Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, Dave Lowe has adapted his popular ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ workshop, as a ‘presentation’-style 45- / 60-minute session for large groups of students, from Years 3 to 8. In this fun, highly-interactive session, Dave will share insights into ideas-generation and plotting, and give each student a story template, as well as all the tips and tricks they’ll need to make their own short ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style book that they can take home and try out on friends and family.

What people are saying
Children who live in far flung regional areas are often deprived of opportunities their city cousins take for granted. These kids devour the opportunity to listen, learn and engage with the writers of the books they read but never dream they may have the chance to meet personally. Allison Tait is one author who makes the dream a reality. As a founding member and organiser of BRW Festival my job is made super easy when you have an Allison Tait on your guest list.
Barry was well received by all the schools that he visited. His participation in our Readers Cup Competition was also great. He was an asset to the overall event.
"Gaye Chapman brings a different dimension to the illustrator session. Her multi-sensory games give the children a chance to fully participate in activities leading them to draw without constraints. Children of all ages enjoy her approach, particularly being so hands-on and using the senses of sight, sound, touch and taste to inspire them to draw. Her sessions with senior art students were highly appreciated with the students responding to her creative methods. They particularly enjoyed being ab [...]
Thank you for single-handedly bringing my 10 year old son back to reading.
Popular children's author Dave Lowe visited Genesis Christian College in August. He successfully engaged our Upper Primary students by using humour as he challenged them to create interesting stories. Our students were very responsive and learnt inspiring writing tips such as 'tell, not show' when crafting descriptions of characters.
Nick was fabulous. He met expectations and we would book him again.
As always, Sandie was extremely helpful in finding available authors to meet our needs and then providing follow-up support as needed. Many thanks and I look forward to our continued use of your service next year.
I wanted to say a big thank you for today. The boys really enjoyed listening to you and talked about it a lot after you left... which is a big achievement as they aren’t always like that after an author visit.
Our Prep students loved Serena. She read one of her books and conducted a drawing workshop. The students really enjoyed learning new techniques about how to draw characters with expression. Every one of them walked away afterwards with a smile on their face and some wonderful drawings. Serena has a lovely bubbly personality and was thoroughly entertaining and engaging.
Gave the students a lot of terrific advice for writing. Worked well with the students.
Peter was highly professional and engaging towards the students and staff. He knew his audience and was able to impart not only the skills of writing but also his passion for reading and writing. My teachers have continued to use the ideas and activities that Peter shared with their classes successfully. Would definitely use him again and recommend him to others.
Thank you so much for visiting Nudgee College yesterday and speaking with our Writers’ Circle boys. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. The boys – particularly the Years 5-7s – absolutely raved about your presentation. Thank you again.
Zanni presented three sessions, one for Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. Each presentation was engaging for the students . Zanni used props and expressively read her stories. Where possible Zanni had students on stage with her doing different activities or improvisations.
