Choose Your Own Adventure!
To tie in with the 2025 Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, Dave Lowe has adapted his popular ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ workshop, as a ‘presentation’-style 45- / 60-minute session for large groups of students, from Years 3 to 8. In this fun, highly-interactive session, Dave will share insights into ideas-generation and plotting, and give each student a story template, as well as all the tips and tricks they’ll need to make their own short ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style book that they can take home and try out on friends and family.

Vacen presented a series of engaging workshops for our students in years 4, 5 and 6 at our 2020 School Book Week. It was wonderful how she catered her program around “writing focus” requests from teachers. The children thoroughly enjoyed not only the writing activity but also the chance to learn about “World Building” in Fantasy writing and character development. Vacen was prepared, professional and it was a pleasure hosting her here at Our Lady of Mt Carmel.
Just a quick note to let you know how much we as a school appreciated the workshops and author talk last week. The students got so much from the opportunity, and were so excited by having met you.
Gabrielle has visited our school for the past three years and run her Chinese watercolour painting session with our year 7s. This complements the text that they study at this year level, Chinese Cinderella. Gabrielle is a true professional with a wonderful instructional manner. She incorporates her Chinese heritage into the workshops beautifully and has the students spellbound. The lovely thing about her sessions is that being able to produce a credible Chinese watercolour at the end of the ses [...]
We were excited to welcome Dr. Rob Bell to our all-boys college, where he captivated our Year 7 students with his dynamic science experiments and innovative approach to creative writing. Dr. Bell’s ability to seamlessly blend hands-on scientific exploration with imaginative storytelling not only engaged our students but also ignited their curiosity and creativity. His sessions were a perfect blend of education and inspiration. We are incredibly grateful for his visit and look forward to future c [...]
It was fantastic having Helen in person to talk with our students at Bright P-12 College. She was so engaging, and her presentation was intriguing with historical photographs and artifacts from the area. My students were keen to know more and to read ‘The Rebels of Buffalo’.
We had a lovely Literature Event yesterday. Randa was fantastic, her sessions were thought-provoking, everything went smoothly and we have had great feedback from the staff and students. We are now thinking about next year and would love to have Randa back. We had a great time, thanks so much.
Candice was lovely to work with. All our students from Prep - Year 6 were engaged, enthused and thoroughly enjoyed their session with Candice.
Peter Meares provided the after-dinner address to the fathers [at a Father & Son Literacy Weekend] by reflecting upon his literary and broadcasting experiences throughout his varied professional life. The range of experiences addressed, humour and humility enabled Peter to connect very well with his audience. The fathers were intensely interested in his stories, observations and encounters with sportspeople around the World and the developments that resulted in the authoring of his books. The con [...]
Great communication and a genuine willingness to answer questions.
Dub Leffler was an absolute highlight of our Book Week celebrations this 'virtual' year. He was very entertaining and the overall feedback from all staff, parents and students was overwhelmingly positive. Much needed during these somewhat crazy times.
