Choose Your Own Adventure!
To tie in with the 2025 Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, Dave Lowe has adapted his popular ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ workshop, as a ‘presentation’-style 45- / 60-minute session for large groups of students, from Years 3 to 8. In this fun, highly-interactive session, Dave will share insights into ideas-generation and plotting, and give each student a story template, as well as all the tips and tricks they’ll need to make their own short ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style book that they can take home and try out on friends and family.

What people are saying
Samantha Wheeler is an excellent speaker for any school interested in engaging students in quality writing. A highly respected published author who can genuinely help students transform their ideas into the written form. Writing narrative or persuasive texts can be a daunting task for even seasoned writers, but Samantha shares ideas and strategies good writers use to get their ideas on the page. Tingalpa State School would gladly book Samantha again.
Melinda reinforced many of the ideas we have been sharing with the teachers, about being a visible reader, along with her own experiences of reading and how to get young people reading and building a good reading culture, including author visits and finding the right book. Best of all she read us a story, which fitted well with an overarching theme of Wellness.
Giuseppe was excellent for our Year 6 children. He came early and spoke with the teacher about the exact expectations and what the students wanted to get out of the session. He catered for this in his presentation and gave some great examples of how students could get started with drawing images. His presentation was excellent and well thought out and planned. At the conclusion, he took the time to go around and speak with each student and share some ideas and opinions on some of their drawings [...]
So wonderful. Really appreciated her insight. Positive feedback from all staff and students involved.
Dimity was very entertaining, lots of valuable information. I would love to attend more of Dimity’s workshops
Your session was incredibly well-considered and you engaged brilliantly with the students. They loved hearing about the publishing process and getting a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of a book. We loved getting to know you as a person and a storyteller.
Debra was very clear and articulate. She was able to pace the session and make it applicable for the students. The students were engaged and keen to participate. They found her talk amusing and inspiring. I thought she was amazing! Her presentation engaged all of the students. She was animated, passionate and detailed in her explanations of how she writes.
Speakers Ink were wonderful, very responsive and quick to respond to our requests and ensure our needs were met in a very timely manner. No request was too much. I have had the same wonderful experience in the past and would definitely recommend them in the strongest possible terms.
Wow! What energy and enthusiasm. Martin is an extremely talented performer, illustrator and author. Engaging is an understatement, the library was literally filled with screams of delight. Lots of fun, laughter and pure joy. Martin has a very keen sense of humour that kids just love. Our students were in awe watching him draw during the session and are delighted that they can keep the drawings. His most recent book “Winter of the White Bear” is thought provoking and the multi-media presentation [...]
Sophie was brilliant, informative, tailored to meet what the kids were doing, exploring in class. The writers workshop was also great, kids got a lot out of it and are enthusiastic to write and have their work shared with others. Really enjoyable.
Katherine Battersby was our speaker and she, as always, was fabulous. She exceeded our expectations. You can't improve the experience as she's already perfect. We would definitely book her again if she was in Australia for next book week.
Morsi showed a contagious commitment and was an excellent communicator. His target audiences are without doubt teenagers and adults. Having Morsi at our school was very positive and eye opening! TheDanish People’s Party got more than half the votes in the last election in this region, so there are many prejudices against people with foreign backgrounds. Morsi’s presentations became very real when we the following Wednesday was visited by a class from Ellekærskolen in Aarhus where more than 80% o [...]
Engaging for all students, empowering them to know that they can in fact write poetry. Teacher - "I hated having to teach poetry, but now I see the purpose of it in performance and how much fun can be had with it."
Thanks, Katrina, for sharing your talents and passion as an author. You are an inspiration!
